2. The Sandstone Castle

After finishing the Cave Town, which is a bit of quod, with lots of small, cramped, underground streets it was good to have some space to try and build something majestic. I also wanted to use cylindrical towers

The castle is made of all the types of sandstone and I used blackstone for the roofing. Because the build was still early in the world and I still had so much to do, I used to have to run a full day to the nearest dessert to pick up the sandstone that I needed. It took a lot of trips there and back to finish everything. I did the return desert journey one time just with stacks of sandstone and a bit of food in my inventory and got lost in the mountains, for a couple of days and nights. I have a train track there now and have got into using ender chest, shulker boxes, good tools.

This world is about three years old I’m always having to get sand and a few parts of that desert are really trashed, so it’s good that it’s quite far away from the builds. The desert is my dirty little secrete.

The central keep

My original plan on the castle was to go for a neo-Gothic design, and a lot of it feels like that to me. So even though I call it a castle it was never intended to look like a real castle. It’s my interpretation of a very fluid 19th century Western European architectural style, that mimicked real old castles. I’ll just call it a castle for ease though. I think the back of it has got a far Eastern look to it anyway. So the castle is a bit of a fun mishmash

Interior

There is loads of stuff in the castle.

Quick tour: On the ground inside the castle keep is my starter house. I had planned to demolish it but it seemed a waste so it stayed.

In the started house the basement is a storage room. Ground is a bedroom. Tower is a very cramped magic book library.

Storage room traps

I didn’t want to build a death trap dungeon but it seemed a waste not to utilise the grinder that’s directly below the storeroom. This sticky piston trap is activated by a pressure pad on the front door and set on a cunning delay. There are another couple of traps around the basement of the castle, all safely turned off.

Inside farm, unused

In the main keep Directly between the starter house chamber and the library is an unused farm. I wanted farmers working it for me, it’s too close to Cave Town to get that idea to work. Not really sure what to replace it with

Library

The library has a lot of books, around the outside and 2 spirals of books that act as stairways to the top of the castle. It makes a good fighting arena.

The castle garden is unfinished. I won’t do it till I go round to building the out wall properly, it’s on the list.

Close

So that’s most of Sandstone Castle. I’ve put a lot of time into it so far but there is still the outside wall to build and I have a plans for large towers on the sides.
