For the next Sky island we wanted to build a nice sized lake for axolotl to live in and I wanted a pyramid with temple from Mesoamerica. My idea was to put the building on an island in the middle. I chose to build a Maya styled pyramid with a temple on the top and didn’t want to build it as a ruin.
Before starting the build I enjoyed learning about some Mesoamerican cultures.
(One of the most interesting things that I learned was that the Maya are a living culture)
Construction
I used light blue concrete for the base. The base is circular and was built 101 blocks wide. Maya Pyramid has the largest base of the Sky island.
I built the pyramid and four stairways out of a layer of deep slate and then covered it, conservatively, with red terracotta and prismarine slabs.
The temple on the top is similar to what I had seen on top of a couple of Maya pyramids, with the addition of a few sea lanterns.
As a survival build a lot of effort spent to:
-Convert the concrete powder into concrete.
-Make the terracotta in the mud factory.
-Mine the prismarine from the sea.
– Fill the lake with water.
Interior
Inside the pyramid is another pyramid, this one just made from deep slate, like a ruin. (Historically the larger Maya pyramids where built on top of smaller older ones)
The inside ruin has a conduit and structure at the top with a bubble lift running through it. The lift runs from the top of the red pyramid down to a couple of secret rooms underneath the ruin. (Maya pyramids have rooms and tombs hidden in them)
The lake around the pyramid is mostly six blocks deep and has lots of rocks and caves constructed out of tuff. I ended up with chests of kelp from growing it all to create the lakes water blocks.
No cute pictures of axolotl to show, annoyingly the drowned that spawn in the lake killed all of them.

It’s certainly wasn’t a very technical build, a largish one though.
It doesn’t really have any survival function. But this island would make an excellent king of the hill fighting arena, or drowned farm. I also could build a tank inside the temple and capture and transport an elder guardian to put in it.
