My original idea for Cloud peaks island was to do a rough copy of Fanjingshan (a well know twin peaked mountain with temples on the tops) But although the buildings on Fanjingshan are impressive and must have been very difficult to build, they seemed a little bit un-colourful and short for a Minecraft build. So for the smaller of the my peaks on the island I chose to do a seven story Pagoda.

Constuction
I used gold blocks and blackstone for the roofs. Polished basalt for the frame, a double layer of nether brick wall for the walls, a bit of nether fence, bamboo blocks for the floor and stairs.and a different colour of glazed terracotta for each level.
Each floor and roof was the same size, just stacked on top of each other. I did think about making each floor a bit smaller as I built up, but that would have had a lot more cons than pros with a seven story building. The pagoda would have had to have been a couple of times larger to make it work, that wouldn’t have worked on top of the peak.
So it wasn’t very difficult to build – until I got to the top roof. On the top roof the game started acting funny, quite annoying, It would give me enough fall damage for death, for no reason at all (I already die enough on this game from real fall damage), it was random and the same thing was happening at the top of the gold Buddha that I built next. Maybe it was the curse of the zombie pigmen, I had fed more than a few into my trident killer to get all the gold blocks.

Exterior

There is a large amount of diversity in pagodas colour and look, they are found in many different cultures and have evolved with building technical know how. So I just did what I wanted with the colours and general shape of the outside.
Interior
I don’t like to build facade buildings. I find something useful or decorative to go inside them all. With the pagoda I had seven small rooms stacked on top of each other, not big enough to do much with. … On my previous build Moroccan island I had wondered how many interesting geometric patterns you could get from the different glazed terracotta colours. … so I decided to turn the pagoda into some sort of an art gallery and have a variety of each colours blocks pattern on the levels.
I didn’t want to use the same glazed terracotta colours as on the previous build, but I’ve definitely got my most and least favourite colours. I don’t like the orange, really like the black.
For the lighting I used lightening rods set into the ceilings. To hide them, on the floor above, I added plinths that I will use to put our interesting or rare finds from adventuring in the game.

Close
I’m happy with the build. Its a nice addition to the Island. If I run out of other ideas I’d happily build a stand alone pagoda on a larger scale and would probably try to use an octagonal structure.
